blinking lights on the hp deskjet 6980 printer series

I am hoping to find this last issue can be easily addressed. I have also tried the reset procedure and the suggestion to remove power completely for 30 seconds (when the printer is powered up).ĭoes anyone have any other suggestions? My original problem was definitely a 'stuck' print carriage and I definitely now have that corrected. I have tried repositioning it a few times but am not having success. However, I still have the same lights flashing and have discovered that might be due to the carriage not being in the expected position at power up.

I have reassembled it and the carriage moves freely now. I have actually been able to disassemble and repair the piece behind the print carriage. Normally, you should be able to move the carraige across the width of the printer.

This is easy to diagnose because, with the printer off, the carriage cannot be manually moved more than a couple of inches from its parked position. Because of that, the print carriage is hitting a mechanical support and the head will not move any further. I took the carriage off the bar and saw that this plastic piece became partially detached from the drive belt. This plastic piece rides the carriage bar and moves the print carriage. I took the printer apart and found that there is a plastic piece that is attached to the drive belt. I found that the flashing lights are supposed to be telling me the print carriage is stuck. I am currently trying to resolve the issue. I have discovered a number of other users that have encountered the same problem for the same reason. This problem was caused when an envelope jammed in the printer. Pressing the resume button results in the carraige moving 1 to 2 inches and then returning to the park position, and the lights resume flashing.

The pwr light and resume light are flashing.
